Green waste, including food scraps and garden materials, is transported to the Port Macquarie and Lake Macquarie Organics Resource Recovery Facility (ORRF). Lake Macquarie also accepts biosolids, organic materials derived from sewage treatment processes.

Mixing and preparation

Green waste and biosolids are efficiently transported by an automatic conveyor system. This process ensures proper blending and homogenisation of the various input materials.

Closed tunnel composting

REMONDIS employs closed tunnel composting technology to decompose waste materials in a controlled environment. Microorganisms break down organic matter, producing nutrient-rich compost.

Screening and grading

Screening and grading are vital processes involving separating green waste into various particle sizes to ensure that the final material meets specific requirements.

Compost re-entry

The resulting compost is a valuable resource that can be used as a soil additive for agriculture, landscaping, farms and gardens. It not only enhances soil quality but also reduces the requirement for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Additionally, it aids in the reduction of waste in landfills.
