REMONDIS in the community
We like to get to know the communities we serve, to find local partners, recruit local staff and to lend a hand where we can. Here’s a little of what we do.
Opened in October 2021, the REdiscovery Hub at REMONDIS Swanbank Clean Energy & Waste Management Facility in the Ipswich region of Queensland, provides an engaging introduction to recycling for school groups and community groups.
Specialist educational consultancy, Envirocom, designed the Hub’s interactive program to be fun, educational – and aligned with the national curriculum. Visits to the REdiscovery Hub often include a bus tour of the active landfill – which is something you don’t get to see every day. Tours are free, and bookings can be made online.
One of our responsibilities as the Waste Management Service Provider for Shellharbour and Wollongong City Councils in NSW is to provide community education. We love doing it. Our REMONDIS Harbour Cities Education Officers regularly visit and present to primary and high schools and meet with local community groups. Their interactive presentations focus on where the contents of each bin ends up, and how everyone can help manage their household waste.
Our Waste Education Officers also develop and distribute educational materials such as bin lid stickers, collection calendars and information brochures, and manage the Councils’ waste websites.
The Gnalla Biddi Program, initiated by Gnalla Enviro in partnership with REMONDIS, is making a remarkable impact by providing long-term unemployed individuals with the opportunity to embark on meaningful careers. This video explores the experiences of participants in the inaugural Industrial Services Pathway training program, in July 2024
We have 35+ branches right across Australia, each staffed by enthusiastic locals who often find opportunities to support the local communities they serve. In Wollongong, we proudly support the annual i98FM Illawarra Convoy – getting up at 4am to support this great community initiative. Our Sunshine Coast branch supports local not-for-profit DV Safe Phone to re-purpose old phones for domestic life victims in need of a lifeline. Our WA team is helping to raise funds for Perth Children’s Hospital by donating profits from the sale of recycled cardboard – raising $6000 in three months. At Head Office in Mascot, NSW, Clean Up Australia Day is an annual event.
Our team in Weipa – up in the Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland – recently released an educational campaign over Facebook, targeting the improper disposal of marine flares and batteries. This clever campaign, developed in collaboration with the Weipa Town Authority and Rio Tinto, was prompted by battery-related fires at the Evans Landing Landfill, operated by REMONDIS IMS
