This Gnalla Biddi program is creating pathways to employment in industrial services

Here's an edited transcript from the video:

Mitchell Matera, Director of Gnalla Enviro, Founder of the Gnalla Biddi Program:
Gnalla Biddi is a program that we started just over a year ago. We're looking to bring in long-term unemployed people into the industry, and the way we're doing that is through bringing them into courses and giving them the work experience and life skills to start their journey into a career.

‘Gnalla’ means ‘us’ or ‘our’ in Noongar, and ‘Biddi’ means ‘pathway.’ For us, it's our first step program within the business, so our pathway is a perfect fit for what we're trying to do, which is bringing people into an industry and giving them their pathway to succeed.

Damon Cotton, Industrial Services Trainee in the Gnalla Biddi Program:
The Gnalla Group really helped us get back into work, build skills, and focus on getting us into the workforce, and it's been very helpful.

Shannon Simpson, Industrial Services Trainee in the Gnalla Biddi Program:
We are in the classroom most of the time, and then we do physical work, learning how to use equipment and everything.

Zeldon Cronin, Industrial Services Trainee in the Gnalla Biddi Program:
For the last couple of weeks, we've been doing this program to get tickets in, you know, White Card, excavator, skid steer, and high-pressure washing. The trainers have been fantastic, and I’ve really enjoyed the excavator training and the physical work.

Neil Indich, Industrial Services Trainee in the Gnalla Biddi Program:
I’m about to get my ticket, and I’m really excited for it.

Steve Tunbridge, Manager Industrial Services – WA, REMONDIS Australia:
Once all the participants finish their 3 weeks of training, they'll have a 12-month contract to work at REMONDIS Henderson.

Jason Collard, CEO – Gnalla Enviro:
They’ve got the opportunity to change their lives. We ran a course like this over 12 months ago, and we still have most of those guys with us. It's changed their lives — they've got a career now that they're happy with, and it helps out with the families too. It helps everyone.

Neil Indich:
I was a bit shy when the program started, but by the second week, we really started getting to know everyone. We said to each other, 'stick with it' and see how we go by the end of it.

Zeldon Cronin:
I appreciate everything they've done and all the work they’ve put into us. Their patience has definitely meant a lot to us, and it helped us all through the program.

Damon Cotton:
The Gnalla Group has really helped me gather the skills I need for my career. They've done a lot to upskill me, and I can only go up from here.
