MEDIA RELEASE
REMONDIS Australia has invested in new waste logistics vehicles after being retained by Snowy Monaro Regional Council to continue municipal waste collection and recycling services until 2027, with options to progress until 2030.
The arrangement will see REMONDIS continue collecting general waste and commingle recycling for more than 900 residential properties and businesses across the Bombala and Delegate region, with general waste being collected weekly and co-mingled recyclables collected fortnightly.
REMONDIS will continue transporting waste and recyclables from Council owned facilities at Adaminaby, Berridale, Bombala, Bredbo, Cooma, Delegate, Jindabyne, Nimmitabel and Numeralla with waste going to council-owned landfills and recyclables transported to the ACT Material Recovery Facility.
A new Mercedes-Benz Atcross 8-wheeler hook lift truck has been acquired to service the transfer stations, and a new Isuzu FX side-lift truck for residential collections will be in operation shortly.
REMONDIS Landfill and Transfer Station Manager Russell Cairns said the new trucks would make a difference as the company’s long-term relationship with the local area continues.
“As REMONDIS does across Australia, and globally, we focus on tailor-making services to suit the needs of each community, which is what we’ll continue doing across the Snowy Monaro region,” Russell said.
“It’s a unique and challenging region because we service communities that are spread out, which requires detailed planning and coordination.
“Weather conditions and tourism-driven population fluctuations mean we have to be flexible and work with Council to manage situations on an ad-hoc basis. That might involve resorting to using wheel chains during periods of snow and ice, or adjusting pick-up patterns depending on changing circumstances.
“Snowy Monaro locals are known for being friendly and cooperative, which makes working in the area particularly enjoyable.”
REMONDIS Australia operates across the region every week of the year, with its two trucks travelling more than 1,200 kilometres per week.
