REMONDIS received industry award recognition for innovation to waste collection and logistics
MEDIA RELEASE
REMONDIS Australia has been highly commended for its innovative approach to Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) collection and logistics at the 2021 Waste Sorted Awards in Western Australia.
REMONDIS is a proud collection and logistics partner to Western Australia’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), and was delighted when the successful scheme was acknowledged.
REMONDIS uses on-site and rear-lift truck compaction with RFID technology to reduce the amount of air and increase the number of bottles able to be collected and transported through our CDS collection process, while maintaining highly accurate auditing processes. This innovative model has resulted in increased safety outcomes and an environmental saving of 173,000 litres of diesel fuel and 681,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions every year.
Every year in WA 1.3 billion drink containers can potentially be used for recycling into products such as aeroplane wings, hard hats and new drink containers.
The CDS initiative encourages local residents to take empty beverage containers to a refund point by paying out AUD 10 cents for every eligible drink container returned. The container deposit scheme in WA is coordinated by not-for-profit, WA Return Recycle Renew Ltd (WARRRL).
Over the life of the contract, REMONDIS will help to reduce littering and landfilling and increase recycling by collecting some 7,500 tonnes or 550 million containers each year – creating a big change in this beautiful corner of the world.
