Construction and demolition waste is heavy and bulky waste, often containing a mix of timber, concrete, bricks, tiles, rubble, metal, plastics, plasterboard and packaging.
While this can be collected in a single large bulk bin, for larger construction sites it can be more cost-effective and environmentally beneficial to have separate bins for each type of waste. When separate bins are logistically and commercially viable, sorting waste at the source allows for more valuable resource recovery, and reduces landfill.
Mixed construction and demolition waste is often referred to as dry waste or non-putrescible (waste that doesn’t break down easily) – you might come across these terms on your invoice.
Who uses our construction and demolition waste services?

After construction and demolition waste is collected, it’s taken to a nearby Transfer Station for assessment and consolidation.
Often a Resource Recovery Facility is the next step, where picking lines remove any larger pieces of recyclable material such as concrete, cardboard packaging, metal or wood. Residual waste is then shredded, packed into specialised trucks and transferred to a landfill facility for disposal.
We’re always working to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill. Here in Australia, we operate several Refuse Derived Fuel plants (which turns non-recyclable waste into fuel pellets for industry) and we’re working on several Energy from Waste facility proposals, in which non-recyclable waste is converted into electricity.
