What happens to your waste?
After your bin is collected, it’s taken to a nearby Transfer Station.
Often a Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) is the next step, where picking lines remove any larger pieces of recyclable material such as cardboard, metal or wood. Residual waste is then shredded, packed into specialised trucks and transferred to a landfill facility for disposal.
We’re always working to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill. Here in Australia, we operate several Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plants, which turn non-recyclable waste into fuel pellets for industry. We’re also working on several Energy from Waste facility proposals, in which non-recyclable waste is converted into electricity.
