Glass is a common material used to create bottles, containers, windows, windscreens, mirrors, plates and drinking glasses. However, not all glass can be easily recycled.
Glass bottles and jars – typically used for the packaging of food – can be placed into either a co-mingled recycling bin, or in a standalone glass bin.
Glass that has been treated (such as oven-proof dishes and drinking glasses) or glass that contains other materials (such as windscreen glass, mirrors and light globes) can’t be recycled with standard glass as they require further processing and treatment to be recycled.
Glass can be placed into either yellow co-mingled recycling bins, or REMONDIS can provide dedicated glass bins for businesses that need to dispose of large volumes of recyclable glass.
Who uses our glass recycling services?
Retail // Food Manufacturing // Logistics
Once used or waste glass is collected, it’s transported to a specialist Material Recycling Facility (MRF) where it is sorted into different types and colours of glass.
Next it’s crushed into small particles and taken to a glass recycling plant. At the plant the glass is washed and any contamination (such as small bits of metal or plastic) are removed.
The cleaned glass is then melted down and poured into moulds – a recycled raw material ready for another use.
