Plastic is commonly used in the packaging of everyday products.
Rigid plastics include bottles and takeaway food containers and are usually recyclable. They are usually collected in yellow co-mingled recycling bins. Some rigid plastics are suitable for income-generating container deposit scheme (CDS) collection bins.
Soft plastics, including cling wrap, shrink wrap and plastic bags. As a general rule of thumb, if you can scrunch it up into a ball, then it’s a soft plastic.
REMONDIS provides a specialised soft plastics service for businesses that need to dispose of large amounts of shrink wrap, pallet wrap and similar plastic packaging.
Who uses our soft plastics recycling services?
Retail // Manufacturing // Logistics
Once plastics are collected, they are transported to a specialist facility where they are sorted into different types and grades of plastic.
Each category of recyclable material is tightly compacted into bales using a specialised baler, then the bales are supplied to recycling facilities via our Commodity Trading Desk. The material in these bales is shredded into finer particles, washed and screened for contamination.
The resulting particles are melted down or chemically treated and then moulded into pellets – a recycled raw material ready for another use.
